The Anav story
Our inspiration and how it all started....
I’ll never forget the weight of that wooden bowl in my young hands. I’d eat my mango from it, the sun warming my face, the scent of blossoms in the air.
My mum bought it from a roadside artisan. It was simple yet beautiful; she always had an eye for treasures.
Do you have a childhood memory that stays with you?
I came from a humble, Indian home in Uttarakhand in the green foothills of the Himalayas.
My father was an engineer, my mother was a homemaker; they raised me to cherish people and nature.
But it was my mum who stirred my love for hand crafted, artisan homewares.
After college, I started a career in luxury hotels. I drew inspiration from their grand interiors and furnishings.
My role introduced me to new places, cultures and the work of gifted artisans.
On visits home, my case would bulge with presents for
my mum. She loved the textiles and ceramics that I brought her.
In my 20’s, I came to London with my heart in my mouth. It was a moment that would change everything.
Joining Liberty of London, my eyes were opened to the world of global art and design.
I was excited to find some of the artisan style decor from back home and share their story with customers.
I loved my new life and the inspiration around me, but it wasn’t always plain sailing. I missed the people and places back home. But I was determined to stay and with my true love by my side, we started a family.
Becoming a mother, I thought about my children’s future and the need to protect our planet.
My home became a sanctuary. I filled it with handcrafted décor that reminded me of childhood.
As my love for interior design grew, I became a seeker of homewares that honoured people and planet.
I began sharing my treasures as gifts to my friends and family. Finally my passion for artisan goods led to the launch of Anav.
As you explore these pages, I want you to feel inspired. I want you to catch your breath when you hold your purchase from Anav. I want you to know that it was made and packaged with love and care.
That is my gift to you.
